Champagne, un petit hameau à mi-chemin
entre Whitehorse et Haines Junction, doit son nom à Jack
Dalton. Après la conclusion heureuse d’un voyage ardu à partir de la côte
de l’Alaska, Jack Dalton ouvrit une caisse de champagne
pour célébrer comme il se doit avec ses hommes.
Champagne is a small hamlet halfway
between Whitehorse and Haines Junction that owes its name to Jack
Dalton. After the successful conclusion of an arduous trip from
the Alaskan coast, Dalton opened up a case of champagne and celebrated
in proper fashion with his men. |

This Paris is long forgotten but Dawson
City still is remembered as Paris of the North. The French
charms of La Belle Époque added welcome spice
and colour to mining life. Champagne, fine food and lodging, great
wines, opera, ballet, all brought relief and international recognition
to the remote North.
