| L’école
Émilie-Tremblay, la première école française
au Yukon, a ouvert ses portes en 1996.
Émilie-Tremblay school opened in 1996, in
Whitehorse. It is the first French school in the Yukon.
The Catholic Church was mainly francophone. Through
the work of the Oblate missionaries and the Sisters
of Ste. Anne it established schools and St. Mary’s Hospital,
which for a time was the medical centre of Dawson City. The work
of some of the nurses, such as Sister Agnes Ouimette,
reflected their competence and devotion even though they had no
medical training.
